President Donald Trump isn’t shy about sharing his frustrations over the tediously slow confirmations his nominees have received in the U.S. Senate.
The most recent and extremely important position of Secretary of State had been delayed as Democrats tried everything to stop Trump from getting his pick.
That pick is current CIA director Mike Pompeo who until yesterday seemed like he may not end up as head of the State Department.
Heading into a nail biting Senate foreign relations committee vote, President Trump personally stepped in and persuaded Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) to back his man.
“President Trump believes that Iraq was a mistake, that regime change has destabilized the region, and that we must end our involvement with Afghanistan,” Paul said in a statement. “Having received assurances from President Trump and Director Pompeo that he agrees with the President on these important issues, I have decided to support his nomination to be our next Secretary of State.”
Pompeo is now scheduled a final vote on the senate floor, which is predicted he will win with full GOP backing.
It goes to show that when deals are to be made, President Trump will do what it takes to get the deal done!
